Since beginning his construction management career in 1973, Jay Bothwell has cemented himself as a reputable professional in the industry – both locally and nationally. Over the course of his more than 45-year career, Jay has completed over 15 million square feet of building projects, largely in the Greater Washington area. His impressive roster includes design and construction management for prestigious commercial projects including Columbia Square, Franklin Square, Postal Square and Gannett World Headquarters among others.
Operating out of the firm’s office in Washington, DC, Jay is responsible for oversight and management of all aspects of project management, as well as design and construction services for base building projects. As one of DC’s most sought-after experts in base building applications, Jay draws upon his professional experience in real estate development, general contracting and architecture in order to provide management services for the firm's largest and most complex assignments. Throughout his career, he has developed a strong track record of delivering projects on time and under budget, while remaining in accordance with client plans and specifications.
Prior to joining Savills in 2012, Jay was vice president of construction for Hines, where he spent 28 years.
Awards, Achievements and Activities
In his free time, Jay is involved within his industry and community. He currently serves as a chairman of the City Club of Washington, on the Past Presidents Council of the Washington Building Congress and is the emeritus of the District of Columbia Arts Center (where he previously served as president). Additionally, he is an active volunteer at the Destination College Advising Corps (DCAC), as well as the DuPont West Citizens Association where he served as president for five years. The Design Leadership Council recognized Jay as the ‘Developer Rep of the Year’.
