Over the course of his more than 35-year career, Tom Baker has become an authority within the hospitality industry and currently provides his clients a plethora of advisory services along with reliable, knowledgeable representation for any transaction. His areas of expertise include hotel asset sales, development consulting, brand selection, management company selection and all-encompassing buyer representation. From operations, sales and marketing to development and acquisitions, Tom is able to guide his clients down advantageous paths that will ultimately lead to successful businesses that meet all of his clients’ expectations.
Prior to joining Savills in 2011, Tom teamed with industry veterans Marc Magazine and Dave Durbin to establish Humboldt Hospitality Advisors, a full- spectrum hospitality services firm based in McLean, Virginia. Before that, Tom was the executive vice president and chief investment officer for the Barceló Crestline Corporation where he directed the business development effort of Barceló Crestline and Crestline Hotels & Resorts, including acquisitions, dispositions and asset management of 160 owned and leased hotel properties.
Tom began his prominent career at the Marriott Corporation in 1976, where he remained for nine years and afterward, Tom moved onto becoming the hotel manager of Marriott’s Essex House NYC and Nikko Hotels International. Eventually, Tom became an executive vice president at Durbin Companies, where he spent 13 years. From the ground level and up, Tom has seen all that goes into running, acquiring and selling a welcoming and thoroughly enjoyable hospitality establishment.
Awards, Achievements and Activities
Tom is very active in the community outside the office. He currently serves on the fundraising board for McQuaid Jesuit High School and Gonzaga College High School. He also actively volunteers for the ALS Foundation and is a donor at the Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC).
Additionally, Tom is currently a member of the Urban Land Institute, Commercial Real Estate Brokerage Association (CREBA), Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI), and Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce board of directors, as well as the president of the Newport Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau.
