Professional Expertise
Rodney Nichols is a Senior Project Manager who has worked on a wide variety of GSA’s projects for many different client agencies. He has managed projects totaling 6 million square feet valued at more than $750 million over the course of 20 years in the field of federal and private sector real estate project management. Rodney’s expertise is in managing large, complex projects from leasing through tenant move-in, including building construction and renovation from site and base building work all the way up through structural, MEP and tenant construction fit-out. Rodney’s project history incudes base building, building addition, building renovation, conference centers, interior tenant fit-outs, data centers, LAN room and other IT facility-related projects. He managed multidisciplinary teams responsible for strategic planning, construction management and execution, including project budgeting, scheduling and negotiations.
Rodney worked for the GSA for 7 years, where some of his noteworthy projects included several projects for CBP including its new Washington, DC, headquarters and NTC facility in Virginia, totaling over $80 million and 350,000 SF; a $60 million interior renovation of FEMA’s Washington, DC, headquarters totaling over 500,000 SF with tenants in place utilizing swing space; a $120 million renovation of two buildings at DEA headquarters in Arlington, Va., totaling 600,000 SF, with the tenants in place. Rodney’s public-sector clients have included FEMA, US Customs and Border Protection, US Department of Homeland Security, DEA, FBI, Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation and numerous other projects for GSA.
Before working for the GSA, Rodney worked as a Construction Project Manager at HITT Contracting Inc., in Merrifield, Va., working on projects as varied as the complete interior renovation of ExxonMobil’s headquarters in Fairfax, Va., to the JVN Data Center in Loudoun, Va., for Amazon, and also the CC1 Project (Data Center) on AOL’s campus in Loudoun, Va.

Rodney earned three GSA Project Management Excellence Awards in 2017.
