WASHINGTON (September 28, 2022) – Savills represented the American Center for Physics (ACP) in securing the nonprofit’s new 30,461-square-foot space at 555 12th Street, NW. ACP, an organization of three physics-related associations, including the American Institute of Physics, American Physical Society and American Association of Physics Teachers, will establish the new location at the District Center building in the heart of downtown DC.
The space will provide a collaborative and convening hub for ACP’s physics and physical sciences community within easy reach of Washington’s transportation infrastructure. The prominent location will also help the nonprofit’s three organizations form stronger bonds with nearby scientific associations and governmental partners.
In evolving ACP’s facilities strategy and rethinking how they work, the nonprofit’s board engaged Savills to identify a dynamic, sustainable, collaborative and modern space for a new center of operations.
“ACP wanted to establish a modern flagship office that provides a convenient location for leadership and member’s visits in a space that promotes their mission and the science of physics. Additionally, ACP wanted to look at the building selection process through an ESG and wellness lens, and we were able to identify a highly amenitized building with market-leading sustainability and wellness initiatives,” said Senior Managing Director David Cornbrooks.
The Savills team included Cornbrooks, Vice Chairmen Bill Quinby and Timothy Foley, Executive Managing Director Wendy Feldman Block and Senior Managing Director Ann Linstrom.
“ACP is more than a building. It’s a nonprofit that allows our family of organizations to share resources and provide our staff and communities with facilities and convening capabilities to move our missions forward. As the organization continues to evolve, we understand that we need to respond by providing workspaces designed to be future-focused. 555 12th Street, NW provides the modern meeting space with state-of-the-art facilities that will allow us to thrive and provide a welcoming collaboration space for the physics community,” said Gigi Swartz, ACP’s treasurer.
Adjacent to the Metro Center public transit station, District Center encompasses an entire city block; bounded by 11th and 12th Streets to the east and west and E and F Streets to the north and south. The property boasts first-class amenities, including a hospitality-inspired lobby lounge, an 8,957-square-foot fitness facility and a Sky Lounge featuring 3,391 square feet of enclosed conferencing/entertaining space and sprawling exposed terrace areas.
