NEW YORK (October 26, 2020) – Savills today announced the launch of its Junior Broker Development Program (JBDP), a 15-month rotational program aimed at providing candidates who have graduated from four-year institutions the opportunity to advance their respective commercial real estate careers. The inaugural class, comprised of eight young professionals in New York City and two in Washington D.C., is 90% diverse and will be paid a full salary over the term. The program reflects Savills commitment to offering a comprehensive education for the next generation of Savills associate brokers.
The JBDP is led nationally by Janet Woods, vice chairman, director and Northeast region lead, who worked closely with senior leadership to implement the program. Gabe Marans, a senior managing director will manage the program in the firm’s New York City office; and Ben Plaisted, an executive vice president and co-regional manager will manage the program in Washington D.C. Erika Hebert, Savills Director of Learning and Development, was also instrumental in the development of the program. Savills plans to expand the concept to other offices throughout North America and will commence recruiting a second class of trainees in the near future.
“The Junior Broker Development Program allows us to develop and train our future leaders, many of whom come from diverse backgrounds,” said Woods. “In an uncertain time, we are offering these young professionals with a passion for commercial real estate a realistic pathway to break into a notoriously challenging industry. Not only will they be afforded a comprehensive education on the business, but they will also be paid a full salary in the process.”
“Our program will allow trainees to rotate across several of the firm’s service lines, including tenant representation; research; cross-border tenant advisory; industrial services; capital markets; portfolio solutions; consulting; workplace strategy and client technology solutions,” Marans said. “I’m proud to help lead an initiative that will provide our freshmen brokers with mentorship, training and learning, while alleviating the financial burden in the early stages of brokerage careers.”
“The program’s success will be reflected in the end result,” said Plaisted. “The firm’s goal is to place this class in full-time positions at the end of the rotational period. Personally, I am excited for this inaugural class to learn from some of the best professionals in the industry and am hopeful that each member will be an asset to Savills for years to come.”
